It was a disappointment, there was so much splashing from little kids in the touch tank that the animals weren’t coming close. We then headed inside where it was PACKED! We expected that because it is winter break, but it was so hot inside! We stood in line for about 10 minutes for 1 touch tank, that had sting rays, fish and mini sharks. I feel like we got our money worth with these 4 visits of the animals! The employees are so well educated on the animals and could answer any questions you had! We started with the loop outside and this was our favorite part! We got to see beluga whales, Sean lions, seals and African Penguins. We chose 11AM and we were let in line at 10:50, and got in just at 11. Tickets need to be purchased online with a time check in before arrival. Such a fun place to visit! We took the drive out from the Capital District of NY, it took a little over 2.5 hours to get here but it was worth it for us! This establishment is so busy patting themselves on the back that they forget about the community that helps support them. I would like to give it less than 1 but there no other lower choice. I would never recommend this place for anyone with small children. I asked the worker/guard how do I get these little kids to see what was in the tank and was rudely told that this was not their issue or problem. They had a starfish and a decorator crab. Again, at the so called "touch tank" I was yelled at because I picked up my grandson so he could see what was in the tank-he had to stand on the floor and look in-there is a rock wall surrounding the tank that there is no way a 3 or 4 yr old could see anything in that tank. Who in their right mind would design a tank where little ones need to be picked up by adults in order for them to see what was in the water. I went with my 2 grandchildren and I was yelled at many times because I held my 4 year old granddaughter and TOUCHED THE RAILING so she could see over their concrete wall. For the amount that they charge to see a filthy aquarium you could go anywhere else for far less money and probably get a smile from workers. The attitude of ALL the employees that day was unacceptible. The employees are the rudest and totally useless in helping anyone with questions concerning their aquarium. This "family oriented" establishment is one of the worst places I have visited in the past few years.

I wouldn't necessarily travel just to see it, but if you're in Mystic for the weekend or even visiting Mohegan Sun/Foxwoods, it's a nice pit stop. Parking can get dicey if you come at 12pm on a weekend as well, so I would definitely recommend going earlier rather than later.Īll in all, a solid aquarium if you're in the area. You can tell the feedings are happening soon because the sea lions start barking at the doors!

We managed to walk by about 20 minutes before a sea lion feeding, so we waited and was rewarded with a great mini-show. They have a ton of animal feedings throughout the day, but none of them are advertised, so you have to kind of just hope for the best. This is more than most aquariums that I have been to, so it's very interactive. There are three touch areas that are all very well managed with regard to flow of the line. It really cleared up by the time we circled back to it around 2:30pm, but it was truly crazy when we entered at 12pm. It is a MADHOUSE inside the main exhibits.

One pro tip - do not go on a Saturday afternoon at 12pm. But as far as aquariums go, I think it was pretty good. I agree that the prices are a bit steep - at about $40 for each adult. The reviews for Mystic Aquarium seem to be pretty mixed.
